Birrarung Bug Splash

Join us on the banks of the Birrarung for a youth-led gathering focused on the future of our river.

The Birrarung Big Splash brings together young people, community members, First Nations peoples and decision makers to reflect on the river’s cultural, ecological and community significance, aiming to build momentum towards a healthy, swimmable future.

This event builds on the energy and recommendations of the 2025 Birrarung Floating Youth Summit, where young people came together on the river to imagine what a restored, swimmable Birrarung could look like. 

The morning will open with a keynote conversation exploring the realities of hotter summers and the importance of safe, accessible places for communities to cool down. Elected representatives will be invited to attend and engage in discussion around what tangible action is needed to improve water quality and river health.

Following this, attendees will be able to take part in a choice of guided activations along the river. These experiences will offer different ways to connect with and explore the river, centring respect for the Birrarung as a living entity.
